Scooter stolen and recovered

Wednesday the 27th of August at 12:22

A couple of months ago our scooter was stolen. The thieves nabbed it right outside our door. They managed to lift it out of the chain somehow. With no alarm, tracking or insurance we figured that it had been a rather expensive 1 1/2 month of motorized fun.

But yesterday we got some indications that it might have been recovered! I called in today and was informed that it was waiting for me at a police station. Hopefully I'll be able to drive it home, but for all I know it could be in bits.

Fingers crossed...

Flat

Tuesday the 29th of July at 14:18

It's been a loooong time since I posted now, mainly because I've been too busy to have the energy to spend here. Unfortunately that probably means I could have had lots to write about too...

I'm going to take some proper pictures of the flat Real Soon Now, so that you can all admire how well it's coming along. We've partly moved down to the 3rd floor now, just finishing oiling the floor in the last room and also setting up the kitchen. I believe the builders will be tearing down the bathroom next week which means proper bathroom is in sight!

Stay tuned!

Captchas part 2

Friday the 25th of April at 16:58

For some strange reason I had a bug in my captcha system that prevented comments from being spotted. (Thanks for spotting it Mike!) Looking at it I should never have been able to post comments with it, though I could swear blind that I tested it. Works now though. :)

The mind boggles

Tuesday the 22nd of April at 16:33

Sometimes it's hard to understand how we developed as intelligent beings. Not because the Theory of Evolution or any such thing is hard to understand, but because you have morons making films such as this rubbish and the followers that comment on the youtube video.

Clearly some people are just not able to comprehend big, vague or complicated things. And unfortunately people feel they should have an opinion on things they don't understand.

If only opinions required exams...

Site update

Tuesday the 22nd of April at 14:42

I've made an update of the "Browsers" page to only show combined graphs of Windows and Linux. I've also made two breakdown pages for these.
Looking at it now I realise that it might be a good idea to do the same for the browsers. What do you think?

Scooter

Monday the 3rd of March at 19:24

We've been thinking about getting a motorized form of transport, and on Saturday we ended up doing a bit of impulse shopping. We've bought a used 2005 Vespa Piaggio, black, slightly dinged. We also bought a helmet each (mine making my already large sized head look monstrous!)

I'm already contemplating how to go about cleaning up a bit, getting ahead of myself already... The biggest problem is actually going to be that I won't have anywhere to do any work on it, maybe I can haul it up on the block & tackle outside the building and work in it inside.

Sorted out the registration today and hopefully we'll have the insurance sorted tomorrow. Wednesday we're picking it up as they're giving it a full service.

Really looking forward to riding it and it'll be great for getting about if this... [more]

Captchas

Wednesday the 27th of February at 16:46

So finally I had to add captchas too.

Some idiot spammers idiot bot decided that one specific old story was the place to dump about 100 spam comments and I was getting fed up with removing them.

The captchas should be fairly simple question/answer things and hopefully they should be able to weed the bot from the human. If you have trouble with any of them, simply reload the page to get a new one. If you'd like to suggest a new question, please post a question without an answer.
The requirements for a good question is:
- No longer than 80 characters.
- Obvious answer (hence no need to post it).
- Single word, easy to spell answer.
- In english.

If you get a question which you think is stupid or that is simply not working, send me an email. :)

Amsteraid

Sunday the 10th of February at 17:48

For something completely different Lande and I went along to demonstration agains Scientology today. The event was loosely organised by a collective called Anonymous, which has been figuring in the news lately after the whole Tom Cruise video debacle.

The event was quite fun, there was security:

There were lots of protesters:

Lots of press:

Fliers were laid down thick:

Visual heaven

Tuesday the 8th of January at 17:08

After visiting Thomas and Tove at new years I discovered I had to buy myself a little Christmas present. So a few days later, back in Trondheim, I went online and bought myself a Samsung Syncmaster 305T. That's a lovely 30" of viewing pleasure. A whopping 2560x1600 of desktop surface. I only got my hands on it yesterday so I haven't had much time to play around with it yet, though I'm looking forward to try playing some games on it tonight. (Though I might have to spend the time moving the website database back to the webserver machine as the mythtv machine, which it is on now, is a bit too loud to have on all the time.)

I've made a start at trying to find out what home automation system to go for, however I'm starting to realize I have to get more structured about it. This is going to be... [more]

Back online!

Monday the 7th of January at 14:56

As Rob noted in a comment in the previous post, we're back on-line!
Apparently we were switched on while we were away during Christmas (on the 24th apparently) and the linux box is now up and routing for our interwebbing pleasure. :) Cabling is still very jury-rigged with a network cable dangling through the living room (unused awaiting renovation) and bedroom (and bathroom (don't ask)) to get to our temporary living room in the attic. Apparently Lande feels like it's like having a missing limb reattached. I've surprisingly not been missing it all that much, more a frustration of not having my website available for some reason. Odd.
